John Finnerty

Chairman & CEO, NXT Capital at ORIX USA

John Finnerty is President of NXT Capital and is responsible for setting the strategic direction and overseeing all aspects of NXT Capital’s middle-market private debt strategy and asset management platform. His key responsibilities include developing and maintaining institutional relationships, fundraising, credit selection, staffing, product development, strategic planning, sponsor relations, and expanding connectivity with other ORIX business units. He is a member of NXT Capital’s Credit and Investment Committees and the ORIX Corporation USA Management Committee.

Mr. Finnerty has over 30 years of experience in middle-market commercial finance. Before joining NXT Capital as a founding member in 2010, he was the Chief Credit and Risk Officer for Merrill Lynch Capital, where he had primary responsibility for all credit decisions, portfolio management, and underwriting, and also served as Chairman of the Credit Committee. Previously, he served as Group Senior Credit Officer for the company’s Private Debt Group. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Mr. Finnerty spent 15 years in various roles in Heller Financial and GE Capital’s Private Debt groups, including Relationship Manager, Regional Team Leader, Credit Officer, Underwriter, Portfolio Manager, and Auditor.

He earned a B.S. in Accounting from Marquette University.
