Tom Muir

Exhibitions Officer at Orkney Islands Council

Tom Muir is a seasoned historian and part-time archaeologist with nearly 40 years of experience. Since September 2017, Tom has co-owned Orkneyology.com, a venture spearheaded alongside a spouse. As President of the Orkney Storytelling Festival and The Orcadian Story Trust since 2000, Tom has played a vital role in reviving traditional Orkney storytelling, credited with inspiring renewed interest through the publication of the first book of traditional Orcadian folktales, "The Mermaid Bride." Additionally, Tom has served as Exhibitions Officer at Orkney Islands Council since July 1988, where a lifelong passion for history and folklore led to a dedicated career at the Orkney Museum.
