Orleans Public Defenders
Derwyn Bunton started their career at the Juvenile Justice Project of Louisiana in 1998, serving as the Associate Director until 2008. In 2009, they joined the Orleans Public Defenders as the Chief Public Defender.
Derwyn Bunton attended San Diego State University from 1990 to 1995, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science. Derwyn then went on to study at the New York University School of Law from 1995 to 1998, obtaining a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree.

The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) aims to provide the citizens of Orleans Parish and each eligible client with the highest quality, client-centered legal representation in Louisiana's criminal justice system - zealous, conscientious, caring, professional, ethical and skilled - whether in criminal, municipal or traffic court. OPD is a community-oriented defender office built upon that zealous defense of the poor and indigent while acknowledging the strengths of clients, families and communities. Established in 2007, OPD represents nearly 20,000 court-appointed clients each year.
