Ornish Lifestyle Medicine

Ornish Lifestyle Medicine is the first and only program that is scientifically proven to reverse the progression of heart disease. This groundbreaking result - demonstrated by over 35 years of peer-reviewed research from Dr. Dean Ornish - has prompted Medicare and other commercial payers to reimburse for 72 hours of the program under a new benefit category, Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation. Specifically, the program brings about its transformational impact by helping participants optimize four key areas of their lives: nutrition, group support, exercise, and stress management. Participants make these lifestyle changes within small and consistent groups of people (called cohorts) who understand each other’s health struggles and share each other’s goals for the future. These cohorts are led by unchanging teams of clinicians, who - over the course of 18 four-hour sessions - guide participants through comprehensive lifestyle changes and help them reverse the progression of their heart disease.
