Michael J. Behr

Medical Director, OrthoAtlanta, and Physician Emeritus at OrthoAtlanta

Michael J. Behr, M.D., is Medical Director of OrthoAtlanta. Board certified and fellowship trained in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Behr served as a practicing orthopedic surgeon for 25 years, specializing in general orthopedic surgery with an emphasis in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, and hip and knee joint replacement.

Dr. Behr was one of the founding members of OrthoAtlanta. Throughout his years as a practicing surgeon, Dr. Behr concurrently held progressive leadership positions at OrthoAtlanta, including physician board chair. Recently completing his MBA at Kellogg School of Management in Business Administration in 2016, Dr. Behr accepted the Medical Director position in a full-time capacity in 2017.

Dr. Behr has served as President of the medical staff at Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Georgia and currently serves on its hospital board. While practicing orthopedics, Dr. Behr was affiliated with Piedmont Fayette Hospital, Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Piedmont Henry Hospital and continues to serve as a member of the Piedmont Clinic.

Dr. Behr has served as an Assistant Orthopedic Consultant for the Chicago Cubs, as Director of Athletic Care at the Aquatic Venue for the Paralympics, as co-medical director and sideline physician for both the Peach Bowl and Chick-Fil-A Bowls and has worked with athletes at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Dr. Behr is a dedicated medical professional who is also known for donating his time and medical talents to those in need in some of the most impoverished parts of the world. Since 2010 when he first volunteered to assist after the devastating earthquake that year, Dr. Behr has traveled annually to Haiti providing orthopedic surgeries in an ongoing effort to assist the people of Haiti. In May 2018, Dr. Behr participated in a week-long orthopedic medical mission trip in Honduras for the non-profit One World Surgery. An Atlanta-based team of five orthopedic surgeons and 32 additional medical staff enabled a first-of-its kind orthopedic surgical effort at Holy Family Surgery Center providing 37 total knee replacements in three days.
