Physiatrist Tamar Kessel, MD, specializes in non-operative treatments of musculoskeletal injuries such as PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), viscosupplementation, and steroidal medications. Dr. Kessel has a special interest in the use of ultrasound to target medications to the precise location of tissue damage. This method of therapeutic injections shows to be safer and to greatly improve treatment results. Other treatments Dr. Kessel performs include fluoroscopic-guided spinal injections, electromyography, and general sports medicine procedures.
Dr. Kessel graduated from Cornell University where she majored in Human Biology Health & Society. She earned her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After completing a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia and Cornell, Dr. Kessel went on to receive fellowship training in sports and spine medicine at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York where she was Chief Fellow in 2011.
Dr. Kessel’s research has been extensively published and she has earned many awards for excellence in her field. She has given numerous scientific presentations at leading universities, hospitals and national conferences.
