Steve Yu

Steve Yu is a co-founder of Zhang Yu & Partners, a member of the Osborne Clarke global network in China. He previously built and managed China operations for two major western law firms.

As a critical issues business lawyer with nearly 25 years of experience in law, Steve advises senior corporate leaders to navigate business opportunities that are unique to the Chinese market.

Steve guides on mergers and acquisitions, business restructuring, technology licensing, regulatory and compliance across multiple industrial sectors. He is an expert of joint ventures and architected some of China’s largest and precedent-setting Sino-foreign joint ventures.

In addition to his corporate practice, Steve advises high-tech and digital companies on strategic IP licensing, R&D and commercialization of IP rights. He argued one of China’s first Internet-related unfair competition cases.

Steve sits on the supervisory board of two British-invested companies in China. He received his LL.B. from NCUT in Beijing, and his LL.M. from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in Chicago.
