Dr. Carole Durussel

Deputy Secretary at OSPAR

Dr. Carole Durussel currently serves as the Deputy Secretary at the OSPAR Commission, focusing on the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic, and as a member of the World Commission on Environmental Law and the World Commission on Protected Areas under IUCN. With a robust background in marine governance and conservation, Dr. Durussel has held various roles, including Co-Lead of the STRONG High Seas project at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies and Review Editor for Marine Conservation and Sustainability at Frontiers in Marine Science. An Honorary Fellow at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security, Dr. Durussel has contributed significantly to global leadership initiatives aimed at empowering women in STEMM fields through the Homeward Bound project. Dr. Durussel's academic credentials include a Ph.D. in International Environmental Law from the University of Wollongong, and a Diplom in Marine Environmental Sciences from Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.
