Before joining Telstra, Usama worked at Nizam Energy Pvt Ltd, where they held several roles including Manager of Projects and Business Development. In this position, they promoted solar energy solutions, developed sales lead management processes, and prepared business plans and investment evaluations for various solar installations. Usama also worked as a Business Development Executive, where they led industrial sales and managed a team involved in scoping and project management for grid-connected and off-grid projects.

Usama's early career includes a role as a Director of Projects at AIESEC, where they designed and initiated social impact projects and raised sponsorships for multiple initiatives.
