Nate Appelson is a software engineer who currently works for OtterTune. Nate has previously worked for Google, Uber Advanced Technologies Group, and LinkedIn. Nate has also done internships at NetApp and The Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.

Nate Appelson graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2015 with a degree in computer science. While at CMU, they were a research assistant in the Robotics Institute, working on projects related to software development and performance monitoring. Nate also did an internship at NetApp, where they designed and implemented a performance monitoring tool for the company’s kernel space code.

After graduation, Nate Appelson began their career at Google as a software engineer. Nate worked on features for the cross-platform promotion service that helped increase awareness and downloads of LinkedIn’s multiple apps. Nate also expanded the platform that recommends content to users based on their impression and action history. In 2018, they left Google to join the Uber Advanced Technologies Group as a software engineer.

At Uber ATG, Nate Appelson worked on developing self-driving vehicle technology. Nate was part of the team that built and tested the software that enables cars to “see” their surroundings and make decisions about where to go. In 2020, they left Uber ATG to join OtterTune as a software engineer.

Nate Appelson attended Bethel High School before going to Carnegie Mellon University for their undergraduate and graduate degrees. Nate studied electrical/computer engineering and biomedical engineering as an undergraduate, and then went on to get their Master of Science in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon.

Nate Appelson reports to Dao Chen, Senior Software Engineer. Nate Appelson works with Evelyn Chen - Software Engineer, Neal Kaviratna - Software Engineer, and Yuze Liao - Software Engineer.
