Merdies Hayes has had a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of journalism. Starting in 1985, Hayes worked as a reporter for the Los Angeles Sentinel. In 1986, Hayes moved to the Los Angeles Times and continued to work as a reporter until 1996. In 2010, Hayes joined Our Weekly as the Editor In Chief, a role that is currently ongoing. In 2017, Hayes also took on the position of Annenberg Fellow at Our Weekly, a role that lasted from March to August of that year.
Merdies Hayes obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Journalism from Pepperdine University, with further studies at Cal State Los Angeles. This was accomplished between 1976 and 1979. Later, between 2002 and 2006, Merdies pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) in English Language and Literature/Letters at California State University, Los Angeles.
