Rue Mapp is the Founder and CEO of Outdoor Afro, a national online community and outdoor leadership development network that reconnects Black Americans to the natural world. Starting as a blog in 2009, Outdoor Afro has grown into a nonprofit organization with offices in Oakland, CA, and Washington, DC. Mapp leads a new venture, Outdoor Afro Inc., which focuses on product design and outdoor experiences for the Black community. Additional roles include Vice Chair of The Wilderness Society, Board Member of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, and Advisory Board Member for Hurtigruten Group. Mapp's past experience includes Chair of the California State Parks Commission, Author of "Nature Swagger," and Youth Investment Program Officer at the Foundation for Youth Investment. Educational credentials include a BA in Art History and City and Regional Planning from the University of California, Berkeley, and a certificate from Mills College's Institute for Civic Leadership.
