David Blackwood

David Blackwood is Chief Business Officer for Outside GC. In addition to this role, David offers to his clients nearly 30 years of experience serving as general counsel to privately-held companies in a variety of industries, with a particular focus on consumer products, e-commerce and software. David’s clients with Outside GC include Dollar Shave Club, The Bouqs Company, Skylar, Jaanuu and JAE Electronics.

Before joining Outside GC, David was General Counsel of McGladrey Capital Markets in Costa Mesa, California for over a decade, where he represented the company and its subsidiaries in many M&A and other capital markets transactions in the U.S., Canada and Europe. He also served as Assistant General Counsel of RSM McGladrey, a top five accounting firm, handling nationwide employment and litigation matters in that capacity.

Prior to that, David was General Counsel of Canon Computer Systems, the computer peripherals arm of Canon USA, where he ran the company’s legal function and helped the company grow from a startup to a well-established company with $1.4B in revenues.

David began his legal career in private practice in New York City, first at Thacher Proffitt & Wood, and then at the New York offices of Squire Sanders and Dorsey & Whitney. He enjoyed a broad-based corporate practice involving primarily outside general counsel services, as well as a variety of debt and equity transactions.

David is a graduate of Cornell University and Cornell Law School (with a specialization in International Law).
