Johann van Niekerk

Johann van Niekerk, FASSA, has extensive work experience in the financial services industry. Johann is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Outsized, a platform that provides execution expertise for financial services growth markets clients. Previously, they served as the Managing Director - Africa at Outsized, where they established and grew the South Africa office, representing more than 35% of global net revenue.

Prior to their role at Outsized, Johann worked at RGAx as the General Manager for South Africa, focusing on investment opportunities and partnerships. Johann also founded and led RGA Ventures, a sister company to RGA South Africa, where they were involved in corporate venturing and alternative revenue project builds.

Before joining RGAx, Johann held various positions at Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated (RGA). Johann served as the General Manager of RGA Ventures, leading innovation through corporate venturing and alternative revenue project builds. Johann also held the position of Head of Strategic Marketing, where they led marketing, branding, and research and development efforts. Additionally, Johann worked as the Head of Business Development at RGA, leading the business development effort and contributing to revenue growth.

Johann's career began at Metropolitan Life, where they held roles as Credit Life Manager and Product Development Actuarial Specialist and Actuary. In these roles, they focused on business development and managing client relationships.

Throughout their career, Johann has built strong networks in the venture capital, accelerator/incubator, and FinTech communities. Johann has a proven track record of driving growth and establishing successful relationships with blue-chip clients.

Johann van Niekerk, FASSA, began their education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science from Pretoria Boys High School, which they completed from 1992 to 1996. Johann then studied Actuarial Science at the University of Pretoria, earning a B Comm Hons degree from 1998 to 2001. Johann continued their education at the Institute of Actuaries, where they obtained a Fellow degree in Actuarial Science from 2001 to 2007. Additionally, in 2016, they completed the "Insights for Innovation" certification program at IDEO U.
