Evelyn Aswad, a Professor of Law and the Herman G. Kaiser Chair in International Law at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He is also the director of its Center for International Business & Human Rights. Her scholarship focuses on online expression. From 1999 to 2013, he served as an attorney in the Legal Bureau of the U.S. Department of State, most recently as director of the Office of Human Rights and Refugees. During his service to the State Department, he has provided advice on a variety of issues including freedom of expression online, the review of foreign and local laws and practices regarding international human rights standards, issues concerning to extreme brutality, global standards on corporate responsibility and US participation at the United Nations on human rights. He has also received numerous superior honor awards for his bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. Professor Aswad previously served as law clerk to Hon. Arthur J. Gajarsa in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and worked as a firm attorney at Arnold & Porter in Washington, DC. He received a JD, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center and his BSFS, summa cum laude, from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
