João Fayad has a diverse work experience in the field of software engineering and computer vision. João started their career as a Research Intern at Toshiba Research Europe Limited in 2012. João then worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Champalimaud Neuroscience Programme from 2013 to 2014, where they used Computer Vision and Machine Learning techniques to develop a markerless motion capture system for mice. João continued their work as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the same company from 2016 to 2017, focusing on studying the role of the cerebellum in motor coordination. This work was published in a peer-reviewed journal and featured in international science and technology press.
In 2014, João worked as a Project Researcher at the National Institute of Informatics for a year and a half. João then joined Naked Labs in 2017 as a Computer Vision Engineer, where they worked with a team to build the ultimate 3D Fitness Tracker. From 2018 to 2019, they worked as a Senior Software Developer (Computer Vision) at Catapult, and from 2019 to the present, they hold the position of Principal Software Engineer at Owl Labs. Overall, João Fayad has gained extensive experience in software engineering, computer vision, and research.
João Fayad completed their Ph.D. in Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London from 2008 to 2012. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's Degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from the University of Twente in 2007-2008 and another Master's Degree in the same field from Instituto Superior Técnico from 2003 to 2008. In 2018, they also obtained a certification in Deep Learning Specialization from Coursera.
