Brett O'Brien has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Brett currently works at Owlstone Medical as a Principal Analytical R&D Scientist, overseeing the Bioanalysis and Analytical Chemistry teams. Brett is responsible for identifying novel biomarkers on breath for early disease detection. Prior to this, they held the position of Lead Scientist at Owlstone Medical. Brett has also worked at GSK as an Investigator and Senior Scientist, conducting bioanalysis of APIs, metabolites, and biomarkers using LC-MS/MS and NMR modalities. Brett O'Brien has a strong educational background in the field of biochemistry. Brett earned their Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) in Biochemistry (First Class) from the University of Hertfordshire in 2011. Brett then pursued a Master's degree in Research in Biochemistry at UCL from 2011 to 2012. Building on their knowledge, Brett went on to complete their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry at King's College London, which lasted from 2013 to 2017. Alongside their formal education, they have obtained various certifications and awards, including the Unconscious Bias certification from LinkedIn in 2021 and the David Cohen Prize for Best Bioscience Student in 2011 from the University of Hertfordshire. Brett is also a member of the Royal Society of Biology (MRSB) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC).
