Michael McHugh has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Michael is currently serving as the Principal of Advancement & Partnerships at Ownership Works, a nonprofit organization focused on extending wealth-building opportunities to all employees by transforming how ownership is distributed in the workplace. In this role, they collaborate with private equity firms, financial institutions, foundations, and large private and public companies to implement innovative shared ownership programs.
Prior to their current position, Michael worked at Project Equity as a Development Manager, Grants & Investments, where they managed grants and investments for the organization. Michael also served as a Fellow in Policy & Research at the same organization.
Michael has also contributed to political campaigns, as they worked as a part of the National Headquarters Staff for Planning & Events at Bernie Sanders for President in 2020.
In addition to their nonprofit and political work, Michael has experience within academia. Michael served as an Assistant Director and Project Manager at The New School's Platform Cooperativism Consortium, where they worked on developing the cooperative economic model in the gig economy. Michael also functioned as an Executive Assistant to the Dean at Eugene Lang College and held the role of Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer at The Posse Foundation.

Michael McHugh earned their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Grinnell College in 2012. Michael then pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in interdisciplinary social research specializing in economics, philosophy, and sociology at The New School from 2014 to 2018.
