Melissa McCarthy has a wealth of experience in the field of materials chemistry. Melissa began their career in 2013 as a Research Scholar at Pfizer. In 2013, they completed their Final Year Project of BSc (Hons) at the Tyndall National Institute, where they researched the growth, characterisation, and application of ultra-thin templated ferroelectric TiO2 thin films as novel photocatalytic surfaces. In 2014, they began their PhD in Materials Chemistry at the Tyndall National Institute. In 2016, they completed an internship in Photovoltaics at CSEM. In 2018, they completed a Photovoltaics STSM at the University of Oxford. From 2019 to 2022, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford, Department of Physics, where they researched perovskite photovoltaics through vacuum and solution processing techniques. Currently, they are a Device Engineer at Oxford PV, where they are a leader in perovskite solar technology.
Melissa McCarthy completed their Honours Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from University College Cork in 2014. Melissa was awarded the Ireland-U.S. Council Scholarship Award in June 2013. Melissa then went on to pursue their Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry at the Tyndall National Institute, which they completed in 2018.
