Amy Philipson

Amy Philipson is the current Executive Director at Pacific Northwest Gigapop. Amy has over 20 years of experience in leadership roles, including as the CEO of ResearchChannel, a not-for-profit partnership among universities, federal agencies and funders. Ms. Philipson led the formation of ResearchChannel and was instrumental in its success as one of the first providers of on-demand programming and distribution of broadcast TV materials via the Internet. Under their leadership, the company launched a full time national television channel on EchoStar’s consumer-oriented Dish500 Direct Broadcast Satellite system. In addition, Ms. Philipson was responsible for ResearchChannel’s pioneering MPEG-2 high quality broadcast TV quality (and above) demand-video distribution services, and catalyzed and produced the first real-time, and first live, high definition television transmissions over the internet.

Prior to their role at ResearchChannel, Ms. Philipson served as the Associate Vice President and Executive Director at the University of Washington for over 20 years. In this role, they were responsible for a wide range of initiatives and projects related to the university’s academic mission. Amy also served on various committees and Boards, including the Board of Regents and the President’s Cabinet.

Ms. Philipson is a highly accomplished leader with a proven track record of success in both the public and private sectors. Amy is a visionary thinker with a passion for using technology to improve communication and access to information. Her work has had a profound impact on the field of broadcasting and they are widely respected for their knowledge and expertise in this area.

Amy Philipson has a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Econometrics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of City Planning in Finance from the same school. Amy also has a degree in Economics from Wellesley College.
