Sam Chatterjee

Sam Chatterjee has a diverse and extensive work experience. Sam currently holds the position of Chief Data Scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory since January 2023. Sam has also worked at the same company as a Team Lead in Scalable Analytics and Decision Optimization from October 2020.

Before joining Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Sam worked as a Senior Data/Operations Research Scientist from January 2018 to December 2022 and as a Team Lead in Decision Modeling and Optimization from July 2018 to September 2020.

Prior to their work at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, they held various positions at different organizations. Sam worked as an Affiliate Professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering at Northeastern University starting from November 2020.

From September 2010 to March 2014, Sam was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Risk Analysis at the University of Southern California. Sam also worked at Vanderbilt University as a Research Staff / Graduate Research Assistant from September 2006 to August 2010. Additionally, they were a Young Scientists Summer Program Fellow at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in June 2009.

Sam started their career as a Traffic Simulation Engineer at Stantec from March 2006 to August 2006. Sam also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at The University of Texas at Austin from January 2004 to January 2006.

Sam Chatterjee's education history includes a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Honors) from Punjab Engineering College, which was obtained from 1999 to 2003. Following this, Sam pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Systems from The University of Texas at Austin, completing the degree from 2003 to 2006. Additionally, Sam obtained an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers in 2006.

Subsequently, Sam enrolled at Vanderbilt University, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Risk Analysis and Transportation Systems, spanning from 2006 to 2010. Finally, Sam completed a Postdoctoral program at the University of Southern California from 2010 to 2014, specializing in Operations Research and Risk Analysis.
