Veril Phillips

Dr. Veril Phillips retired after 35 years in higher education. He joined the San José State University faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in 1975 and served as Chair of the department from 1985 to 1993. He held two administrative positions—Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Vice Provost—before leaving the University in 2000. He was an independent consultant in such areas as space management, enrollment services, and human resources from 2000 to 2004. He served as Interim Vice President for Student Affairs at Towson University in Maryland before returning to San José State in November 2004 to assume the position of Vice President for Student Affairs. In July 2010, he retired from the University, but returned (again) in September 2011 for a few months to serve as the Interim Chief of Staff for a new president.

Veril holds a BS in Mathematics from the University of Tulsa, and an MA and PhD in Mathematics from Michigan State University.
