Shannon Toftely

Director, Applied Cognitive Systems at Pacific Science & Engineering

Shannon Toftely has a diverse work experience in the field of cognitive science and UX research. Shannon is currently working as the Director of Applied Cognitive Systems at Pacific Science & Engineering Group, Inc., where they have been since January 2022. Previously, they served as the Deputy Director of Visual Analytics at the same company from January 2021 to January 2022. Before that, Shannon worked as a Senior Cognitive Scientist at the company from February 2015 to January 2022.

Prior to their role at Pacific Science & Engineering Group, Inc., Shannon worked at Atmospheric Technology Services Company, LLC as a Human Factors Psychologist. In this position, they collaborated with a multidisciplinary team to enhance pilot decision making in adverse weather conditions, specifically for the Federal Aviation Administration's Weather Technology in the Cockpit Program. Their responsibilities included usability testing, SME interviews, heuristic evaluations, and experimental design and testing with statistical analysis. Shannon held this role from August 2013 to February 2015.

Additionally, Shannon has experience working as a UX Research Consultant. During this time, they proposed and conducted a study to evaluate and compare the expectations of website users with those of web designers. Shannon also aided web designers in wireframe development and designed remote testing surveys. Shannon's role as a consultant lasted from October 2013 to January 2015.

Furthermore, Shannon has served as a Graduate Research/Teaching Assistant at the University of Oklahoma. In this role, they acquired expertise in experimental design and evaluation, statistical analyses, and conducted human factors research on decision making and display technology. Their time as a Graduate Research/Teaching Assistant lasted from August 2012 to January 2015.

Shannon Toftely has an extensive education history, specializing in cognitive science and psychology. Shannon first attended the University of Minnesota Duluth from 2005 to 2009, where they obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Psychology. Later, they pursued higher education at the University of Oklahoma from 2009 to 2011, earning a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Cognitive Science. Shannon further enhanced their knowledge and skills in the field by completing their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cognitive Science at the University of Oklahoma from 2009 to 2015.
