Michele Tonutti is an experienced professional with a diverse background in data science, machine learning, and research. Michele began their career in 2012 as a Research Intern at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, where they worked on the synthesis and characterization of polymeric micro particles for drug delivery systems. In 2014, they furthered their research experience as a Research Intern at the Berlin School of Mind and Brain, focusing on the saliency of visual inputs and distractions.
In 2015, Michele co-founded ProLung Experience, a company dedicated to raising awareness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) through an immersive simulation video game. Michele'sentrepreneurial skills were further demonstrated when their team won the UK BREATHE Hackathon and received an ICAH Project Boost Grant.
In 2017, Michele joined Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna again, this time as a Graduate Research Engineer specializing in deep learning and computer vision techniques for Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). Michele developed models for maneuver anticipation and investigated transfer learning.
Following this, from 2017 to 2018, Michele worked as a Data Scientist at bunq, where they designed and developed machine learning models for fraud detection, transaction monitoring, risk scoring, and marketing. Michele also handled model implementation, testing, and monitoring in production.
In 2018, Michele joined Pacmed as a Data Scientist, focusing on developing machine learning models and software for decision support tools in medicine and healthcare. Michele'swork aimed to deliver scalable and interpretable pipelines for robust, fair, and patient-centric models. Michele eventually transitioned to the role of Senior Data Scientist, where they contributed to the development of Pacmed Critical, a decision support software for the Intensive Care Unit, optimizing the discharge process.
Most recently, in 2022, Michele was promoted to the role of Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Pacmed, where they continue to leverage their expertise in data science and machine learning engineering to drive impactful solutions.
Michele Tonutti has a strong educational background in the field of biomedical engineering and medical robotics. Michele obtained a Master of Research (M.Res.) degree in Medical Robotics and Image Guided Intervention from Imperial College London, completing this program in 2016. Prior to this, they earned a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Biomedical Engineering from the same institution, which they completed in 2015. Michele began their higher education journey at Pearson College UWC, where they pursued an International Baccalaureate degree from 2009 to 2011.
In addition to their formal education, Michele has also obtained several certifications. In 2022, they completed the Design Controls and Risk Management courses offered by Greenlight Guru. In 2015, they achieved the Associateship of the City and Guilds Institute (ACGI) certification from City & Guilds. Moreover, Michele became a member of the Bright Futures Society through Bright Futures Resourcing in 2013.
