Murielle Borst-Tarrant

Murielle Borst-Tarrant is an author, playwright, director, producer, cultural artist and educator from the Kuna/Rappahannock Nations. She is the Artist Director of Safe Harbors NYC and consultant for the LaMaMa Experimental Theatre Indigenous Initiative. Her work involves the deconstructing of methods of the arts in Native communities in New York City and across the country. She consults with many urban and non-urban institutions on the development of Native theater programming. She is a two-time NEFA recipient for ensemble work that she produced, wrote and directed. In addition, she was named in American Theater magazine as one of the most influential women in American theater.

She served as the Special Assistant for the North American Regional representative to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, where one of the mandates was arts and culture. She is the only Native American woman to have her work selected by the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia at the Sydney Opera House; the work selected was her one woman show “ More than Feathers and Beads.”
