Elsa Lauwers

Chief Scientific Officer at Paleo

Elsa Lauwers has a diverse work experience in the field of scientific research and management. Elsa started their career as a PhD student and later became a Postdoctoral Researcher at Université Libre de Bruxelles from September 2003 to October 2009. During this time, they focused on studying membrane dynamics using fruit flies and yeast.

In October 2009, Elsa joined VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research as a Senior Researcher. Elsa'swork mainly revolved around investigating the role of heat shock chaperones in deforming membranes at presynaptic terminals. Elsa held this position until October 2017.

From November 2017 to September 2020, Elsa worked at VIB as a Project Manager. In this role, they contributed to the establishment of Mission Lucidity, a collaboration platform between VIB, KU Leuven, UZ Leuven, and imec. Elsa supported various committees and assisted in setting up a research program for advancing dementia research and care.

In July 2019, Elsa transitioned to the role of Senior Research Manager at VIB. Elsa held this position until August 2021, where they managed research projects and provided scientific leadership.

Currently, Elsa is serving as the Chief Scientific Officer at Paleo, starting from August 2021. Further details about their role in this company are not provided.

Elsa Lauwers obtained their High School Diploma (CESS) from Athénée Royal de Rixensart from 1993 to 1999. Elsa then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Science at Université libre de Bruxelles from 1999 to 2007.
