Jerrold Levy

Dr. Levy is Professor of Anesthesiology, Associate Professor of Surgery and Co-Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina. He obtained his Medical degree from the University of Miami, Florida, where he was an intern in medicine, and completed his residency in the Department of Anesthesiology of the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he also completed two fellowships in Cardiac Anesthesia and in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Levy’s main clinical and research interests include therapeutic strategies to prevent and treat bleeding; anticoagulation and its reversal; thrombin generation; clinical applications of recombinant and purified protein concentrates; therapeutic approaches to shock; and anaphylactic reactions/mast cell activation. He holds numerous regional and national committee positions, including consultant to the Food and Drug Administration’s Blood Products Advisory Committee; fellow and member of the American Heart Association Leadership Committee’s Council on Cardiovascular Surgery; fellow of the American Board of Critical Care Medicine; and member of the Board of Directors for the Foundation for the Advancement of Cardiothoracic Surgical Care. He is an Executive Editor of the journal Anesthesiology and has served as a Section Editor for Hemostasis and Transfusion Medicine. He has authored over 400 publications, including original research articles, reviews, books and book chapters.
