Steven D. Wexner

Dr. Wexner currently serves as Chief of Staff at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, as well as the Chairman of the Department of Colorectal Surgery and Chairman of the Division of Research and Education at the Cleveland Clinic Florida. He also holds several academic appointments including Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Health Sciences Center of the Ohio State University; Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida; Clinical Professor of Biomedical Science at Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University; Professor of Surgery, University of Siena, Siena, Italy; and Visiting Professor, Faculty of Medicine, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. A highly regarded surgeon, Dr. Wexner presently serves as the President of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and is an honorary member of the surgical societies of six other countries. He is also responsible for training 15-20 surgeons per year in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, surgical oncology, and the surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease. In that capacity, he has been the host educator to thousands of surgeons from around the world.

Dr. Wexner is the past President of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, past President of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, past president of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Research Foundation, past President of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, past President of the Florida Gastroenterologic Society, and the past President of the South Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. In 2012, he was selected to the Board of Regents of the American College of Surgeons, and he is also a member of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Wexner is also a fellow of the American Surgical Association. Dr. Wexner earned his Medical degree from Cornell University Medical School and his Bachelor’s degree from Columbia University. He performed his residency in general surgery at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and his fellowship in colorectal surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
