Robert John Torres is an experienced film programmer with a strong background in curating short film festivals. Currently serving as a ShortFest Programmer at Palm Springs International Film Society since February 2020, Torres collaborates with a film programming team to screen and curate the largest short film festival in North America. In addition to this role, Torres has been a Short Film Programmer for the Nashville Film Festival since May 2019, overseeing various Oscar-qualifying competition programs. Other notable positions include Assistant Film Programmer at Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, Filmmaker Coordinator at Tribeca Film Festival, and Pre-Screener roles at several prestigious festivals including the Ann Arbor Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. Robert holds a Master of Fine Arts from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UC Santa Barbara.

The Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films and the Palm Springs International Film Festival are presented under the auspices of the Film Society and are dedicated to nurturing and encouraging new filmmaking talent, honoring the great masters of world cinema and providing audiences with a unique opportunity to engage in an appreciation of and a conversation about the art of cinema as it is represented around the world.
