Michael Tarwater

For 35 years, Mr. Tarwater led in the development of Carolinas HealthCare System, the largest, vertically integrated healthcare system in North and South Carolina.

Carolinas HealthCare System is comprised of 60,000+ employees located in more than 900 care locations throughout the Carolinas, with a total enterprise net revenue in excess of $9 billion.

Prior to joining Carolinas HealthCare System in 1981, Mr. Tarwater served as the assistant administrator at the University of Alabama Hospitals. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of West Florida and a Master of Science degree in hospital and health administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Mr. Tarwater is a life member and past chairman of the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Hospital Association, and previously served on the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Board of Trustees, and as Chairman of the AHA Regional Policy Board 3. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Queens University of Charlotte and serves on numerous other community-oriented boards. He is a Past Chairman of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and founding member of the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council.

Among other honors, Mr. Tarwater is a Life Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of North Carolina’s Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
