Ivar Thorson

Ivar Thorson, Ph.D., has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Ivar is currently the COO & Director of Electrical Engineering at Panthalassa since May 2019. Prior to that, they worked as a Big Data Specialist at Nike from March 2018 to April 2019. Ivar also worked at Oregon Health and Science University as a Sr. Software Developer from September 2017 to March 2018, where they contributed to the development of the NEMS open-source project. Ivar served as a Senior Research Developer at LegitScript from December 2014 to May 2017, where they designed and implemented a distributed harvester for website indexing. Ivar also has experience as a Research Software Developer at Oregon Health and Science University from September 2012 to December 2014, focusing on computational neuroscience and cochlear implants research. Additionally, they worked as an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at Portland State University in Spring 2013, teaching introductory digital design principles. Ivar has also held research positions at IIT - Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia and Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International, Japan. Ivar began their career as an Electrical Engineer at MOD Systems, starting as an intern and continuing as a full-time employee after graduating from UW.

Ivar Thorson, Ph.D. completed their education with a Ph.D. in Advanced Robotics from the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in 2012. Prior to this, they pursued a degree in Mechatronics with a focus on Robotics at Nagoya University from 2005 to 2008. Ivar also holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, which they obtained from 2000 to 2004, specializing in Digital Design and Robotics.
