Demetra Pappas has had a long and varied career in education. Demetra began in 2014 as a Student Teacher for the Poughkeepsie City School District and the Marlboro Central School District. Demetra then moved to the North Merrick Union Free School District where they served as an Educational Assistant and Substitute Teacher until 2017. During this time, they planned and facilitated small group reading and math instruction, implemented IEPs, and tracked student objectives. In 2017, they began working as a Caregiver for the State of Hawaii DHS. In 2018, they became the Girls Basketball Coach for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. In 2019, they were the Secretary for the Waianae Elementary School PTA. In 2022, they began working as a School Partnership Associate for Parallel and a Strategic Account Development Representative for DreamBox Learning. Finally, from 2015-2017, they were the Special Education Department Head and Special Education Teacher for the Hawaii State Department of Education.

Demetra Pappas has a range of educational experience. Demetra obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Special Education from Marist College in 2014 and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Special Education from Istituto Lorenzo de' Medici in 2013. In 2016, they completed a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Additionally, they have obtained a number of certifications, including a Challenger Fundamentals - Core Sales Skills certificate from Challenger in 2022, an Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Certificate from IMSE Orton-Gillingham in 2019, a Teacher Leader Certificate from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2018, a Professional Teaching License from the Hawaii State Department of Education in 2015, a New York State Dual Teaching Certification edTPA from THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE LELAND STANFORD JUNIOR UNIVERSITY in 2014, and a National Board Certification- Exceptional Needs Specialist/ Early Childhood Through Young Adulthood- Mild/Moderate Disabilities (5-21+) from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2019.
