Barry Cunningham has a diverse work experience across various industries. Barry began their career in 2012 as a Research Consultant for Self Help Africa, where they conducted interviews and wrote about the organization's development. Barry then worked as an Education/Programme Support for Plan Ireland, mainly focusing on the education program in West Africa. In 2015, they joined Ballpoint Press as a Content Creator, managing the organization's website and social media and creating promotional content.

Barry then worked as an Ad Trafficking/Digital Sales Assistant for Balls Media in 2016, followed by a freelance website upgrade for Sierra Leone Ireland Partnership (SLIP). In 2017, they served as a Social Media Manager on contract for Magpie Inn, Dalkey. Barry also worked as a Digital Marketing Executive for iFox Creations, where they managed campaigns, designed creatives, and wrote product listings.

Barry obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing from the Digital Marketing Institute in 2016, achieving a distinction. Prior to that, they pursued a degree in Human Rights and Genocide Studies at Università degli Studi di Siena from 2012 to 2013, with a focus on Ethnic Conflict, Election, and Political violence in Kenya. In 2010, Barry completed their Master of Laws (LLM) in Commercial/ Defamation Law at University College Dublin. Barry'sundergraduate studies at the same institution resulted in a Bachelor of Civil Law degree in Civil Law, which they earned from 2006 to 2009.
