Norberto Vargas has a wealth of experience in the healthcare industry. Norberto co-founded Paragon Health Partners in 2012 and served as CEO. Prior to that, they worked as a Physician and Owner at Spinal Rehabilitation Associates from 2005 to 2012. Norberto also worked as a Physician at Medical Edge Healthcare Group from 2005 to 2009. Currently, Norberto holds the position of Medical Director (PM&R and Inpatient Rehab Unit) at Paris Regional Medical Center since 2016.
Norberto Vargas attended Ponce School of Medicine from 1996 to 2000, where they obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. Norberto also pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Science Pre Med from Universidad de Puerto Rico during the same period. Afterward, from 2001 to 2004, they enrolled in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at Baylor University Medical Center, where they obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
In addition to their educational degrees, Norberto Vargas has obtained several certifications. In 2002, they obtained a Physicians Permit from the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Subsequently, in 2008, they became a Diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In 2011, they obtained Diplomate status from the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM), followed by Diplomate status from the American Board of Pain Medicine in 2014. Furthermore, in 2015, they were certified as a Medical Director by AMDA - The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine. Most recently, in 2019, they became a Diplomat of the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

In 1999, St. Joseph’s ownership changed when it became a part of the new CHRISTUS Health System, created as a result of the merger of the Incarnate Word Health System and the Sisters of Charity, Houston. In August, 2001, CHRISTUS St. Joseph’s Health System purchased the buildings, equipment and certain services of the competing 210-bed McCuistion Regional Medical Center, owned at the time by Texas Health Resources. With the acquisition, CHRISTUS consolidated services of the two hospitals into one system. Essent Healthcare, Inc. purchased CHRISTUS St. Joseph’s Health System in late December 2003 and took over operations on January 1, 2004 as Paris Regional Medical Center. In November of 2011, Essent Healthcare, Inc. merged with RegionalCare Hospital Partners, making Paris Regional Medical Center a part of it. Paris Regional Medical Center has recently completed its long awaited Northward Bound Project, a project estimated at approximately $20 million.
