Megan Riddell

Associate at Parlee McLaws LLP

Megan began her legal studies at age 17 by moving from Canada to Scotland to attend law school and graduated with honours from the LL.B. program at the University of Dundee in 2012. In 2013, she graduated from the Glasgow LL.M. program. With a goal to return to Canada and advance within the legal sector, in 2014 Megan obtained her NCA Certificate of Qualification from the Federation of the Law Societies of Canada while working full time as a Litigation Assistant.

While completing her articles with Alberta Justice & Solicitor General, Megan had the opportunity to gather experience at several different rotations including the Social Enhancement Legal Team, Legal Services Division, and the Office of the Public Guardian & Trustee. After her call to the Bar in 2018, Megan was employed as a Crown Prosecutor. In this role, she found herself gaining experience in drafting and submitting written and oral arguments before the Alberta Provincial Court and Court of Queen’s Bench in Response to applications made under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms among others. Her practice grew to include Summary Conviction Appeal work before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench.

Megan was fortunate enough to gain extensive advisory and litigation experience during her time as a Crown Prosecutor with Alberta Justice, where she developed skills in Summary Conviction Appeals, research, drafting, client relations, and knowledge of the practical aspects of the alternative dispute resolution processes.

Joining Parlee in 2021, Megan is looking to effectively contribute to ongoing cases and build her own caseload. She desires exposure to a diverse range of clients in order to cultivate a variety of experiences in and out of the courthouse.
