Marketing Development Representative

Marketing · Full-time · NY, United States of America

Job description

Who we are

We exist to make investing in the private markets as easy as Robinhood did for public stocks. More and more people invest in private equity and venture capital every day. Even though this asset class has been around for decades, it wasn't built to handle this volume of investors. Signing up for Robinhood? It takes two minutes. Investing in a VC fund? You've got to fill out a 200-question questionnaire each time that you make an investment. The forms aren't standardized and not every question applies to every investor. Investors miss questions or answer the wrong ones and then have to redo the entire thing.

We built a TurboTax-style workflow for investors to only see the questions that matter to them and see every question that matters to them to make fund closing (i.e. the process of investing into a VC fund) easy. Our world record document completion time is two minutes.

That may sound boring, but we've processed billions of dollars for thousands of investors. And by having an investor run through our workflow, we capture their identity so we can allow them to repurpose it wherever they'd like in the future. We call this an "investor passport," and it's the whole reason we built this business. This is the first fund workflow that we're automating.

The impact you’ll have

You’ll be an early employee at Passthrough and will play a huge part in defining the culture and structure. We’re looking for people who can grow with us.

The Marketing Development Representative (MDR) role at Passthrough is a critical part of our Revenue Team and works closely with both Sales and Marketing. Your goal is to drive both inbound and outbound sourced opportunities that convert to revenue. Reporting to our Demand Generation Manager on the marketing team, you will help align Sales and Marketing, elevate the role marketing plays in the revenue engine, and help the Sales team focus on high-quality leads, increasing the chances of conversion.

This role will be in-office 2 days a week on average.

The problems you’ll solve

  • Drive opportunity growth through outbound marketing:  Use modern prospecting, enrichment, and outbound tools to reach high-priority accounts with the right messages and identify new sales opportunities. You’ll both cold call and email every day to educate prospects on Passthrough, generate interest, and identify new sales opportunities.
  • Manage our inbound leads: Follow up and qualify marketing-generated leads (demo requests, MQLs, content downloads, webinar attendees, etc.) to educate leads, understand their customer fit, and ensure only high-quality leads are handed off to the sales team.
  • Be an expert on our product and customers: Clearly articulate our products and solutions with prospective customers to successfully manage and overcome objections.
  • Be the link between Partnerships and Sales: Ensure the sales team has up-to-date info on all our partnership rules of engagement.
  • Be a creative and analytical voice: Use your growing expertise and data-backed analysis on what’s working and what isn’t working to provide feedback and suggest improvements to customer acquisition processes.
  • Other marketing support: Execute special projects as needed, such as revenue ops and demand gen support, market and competitor research, events, and product marketing support.

Desired Qualifications

  • Self-starter and self-motivated to consistently achieve or exceed goals
  • Some experience with, or strong willingness to adopt and analyze tools (such as Salesforce, Salesloft, and Sales Navigator)
  • Someone who is open to feedback and always looking for ways to improve
  • Attention to detail and outstanding communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to work closely with the sales team members

What to expect in the hiring process

We follow the same interview steps for all MDR candidates to ensure equity in our hiring process. Our process is designed to learn as much about each candidate as possible, give candidates access to our team, and help them experience what it's like to work at Passthrough.

All roles also require a background check.

  1. Initial screen: a quick 20-30 minute chat with Brie, our hiring coordinator, to learn more about you and your goals
  2. Complete an assessment: A one-hour paid test to give you a flavor of the kinds of problems that you’ll be solving
  3. Meet your manager: 45-minutes with Cassie
  4. Meet others on the team: 30-minutes with our COO Ben, 30-minutes with our CEO Tim, 30-minutes with someone from our sales team
  5. Get a decision: We’ll get back to you within a week on what’s next
