Laurie W. Newell

Laurie W. Newell, PhD, currently serves as the Superintendent of Paterson Public Schools, a position held since July 2023. Prior to this role, Laurie Newell was the Superintendent at Essex Regional Educational Services Commission from July 2016 to June 2023 and the Chief Reform and Innovations Officer and Executive Director of Human Resource Services at Paterson Public Schools from December 2010 to June 2016. Laurie's earlier career includes positions as Executive Director of School Transformation and Director of Organizational Development at Newark Public Schools, as well as a Manager at American Express. Education includes a PhD in Economics with a focus on Environmental and Natural Resources from the University of Rhode Island, an MS in Agricultural Economics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a BA in Economics from Binghamton University.
