Sorin Popa

Founder, CEO at Pathfinder Medical

Sorin Popa is the founder and CEO of Stent Tek Ltd, a company that develops a novel catheter-based system for hemodialysis in kidney failure patients. Sorin is responsible for building a team, developing the catheter technology, evolving the business plan, and fundraising for clinical trials. Additionally, Sorin worked as an Enterprise Hub Fellow at the Royal Academy of Engineering. Sorin was also a visiting researcher at Imperial College London, where they conducted research on percutaneous creation of vascular access and analyzed various methods for catheter alignment and stent graft technologies. Before that, Sorin was a NSERC USRA Student Researcher at Western University, where they conducted experiments on admittance-based volume catheters for the murine heart and studied the electromagnetic properties of catheters using FEM experiments. Sorin also served as the Chief Design Officer for Shore Up, a startup involved in developing an iOS social media marketing application, where they were responsible for product design and securing funding. Sorin's earlier experience includes being a NSERC USRA Student Researcher at Western University, focusing on wireless power transfer for implantable electronics and creating accurate models for packaging and prototyping purposes. Sorin also worked as a Body and Aerodynamics Design Specialist for UWO Formula Racing.

Sorin Popa completed their Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Electrical Engineering with a Biomedical Signals and Systems Option at Western University from 2009 to 2013. Sorin then pursued a Research Masters (MRes) in Bioengineering with a focus on Medical Device Design and Entrepreneurship at Imperial College London from 2013 to 2014.

In addition to their formal education, Sorin Popa obtained several certifications. In 2008, they received the Gold Sail V certification from Sail Canada~Voile Canada. In 2012, they completed the COMSOL Multiphysics 2-Day Intensive program offered by COMSOL, Inc. Furthermore, in 2013, Sorin achieved the Imperial Quality Improvement Program certification from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. In 2014, they obtained the Controversies in Dialysis Access (CiDA) certification from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and the Charing Cross International Symposium - Vascular & Endovascular CONSENSUS Update certification from the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
