María José Oliva-Martín's work experience includes various roles in different companies and institutions. María José started their career as a substitute head pharmacist at Lda. María Dolores Pérez Pérez Pharmacy in 2010. Later that year, they worked as an associate pharmacist at Farmacia La Alcarrachela.

In 2011, María José became a visiting PhD student at the Instituto de Biomedicina de Sevilla and completed their PhD studies at Universidad de Sevilla, where they focused on research and undergraduate teaching in the field of inflammation and immune responses.

María José continued their academic pursuits as a visiting PhD student at Karolinska Institutet, first in 2014, then again in 2015. In 2015, they also worked as a postdoctoral visiting scientist at the University of Oxford, where they established a collaboration to apply CRISPR technology in their research on macrophages.

From 2016 to 2020, María José worked at Immunocore Limited as a senior scientist, leading the preclinical side of an early-stage immunoncology drug program. María José also set up a CRISPR workflow for testing drug candidates.

Currently, María José works at Pathios Therapeutics as a project manager, supporting the coordination of the R&D program and portfolio, as well as managing the R&D budget and cash flow. Pathios Therapeutics focuses on drug discovery for cancer treatment by targeting macrophages.

Throughout their career, María José has gained extensive experience in immunology research, pharmaceuticals, and project management in the biotechnology industry.

María José Oliva-Martín earned their Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) degree from the Universidad de Sevilla in the period from 2005 to 2010. María José then pursued an MPhil in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics at the University of Cambridge, completing their studies in 2011. María José continued their education at the Universidad de Sevilla, where they obtained their International Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedicine and Molecular Biology between 2011 and 2015. Alongside their formal education, María José also acquired additional certifications including Professional Scrum™ with Kanban I (PSK I) from Scrum.org in October 2022. María José achieved various certifications in communication and leadership from Toastmasters International, including Advanced Communicator Bronze, Advanced Leadership Bronze, Competent Communicator, and Competent Leader, all obtained in 2014 and 2015.
