Yi Chen

Yi Chen is an internationally recognized researcher and engineer in advanced sensing technologies with deep experience across a broad range of technical specialties. He helps clients protect their intellectual property in the areas of electronics and semiconductors, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and medical devices and procedures. Yi also works alongside attorneys to help clients navigate patent litigation as well as complex licensing and IP transactions.

Prior to joining Patterson + Sheridan, Yi worked in the semiconductor industry for over a decade. As a research and development veteran and engineering leader, he spearheaded the development of various “more than Moore” technologies and products, including intelligent sensors and microelectromechanical systems, energy harvesting and storage devices, diagnostic and wearable medical devices, versatile imaging and spectral sensors, miniaturized analytical instruments, consumer health and electronics, and artificial intelligence of things (AIoT).

Yi’s technical expertise lies at the intersection of engineering, life sciences, and artificial intelligence. He thrives when working with technological innovations of all kinds to create solutions for real-world problems. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
