Desiree Gutierrez has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Desiree is currently the Senior Director of Impact and Partnerships at PBS SoCal | KCET since November 2021. Before this role, they worked for the City of Long Beach from 2017 to 2022, where they held various positions including Business Process Improvement Officer, Communications Officer, and Special Projects Officer. In these roles, they developed and implemented an award-winning communications strategy to raise community awareness of public safety and infrastructure projects funded by Measure A. Desiree also supported the Measure A Transactions and Use Tax Citizens Advisory Committee. Additionally, they provided support to the COVID-19 and Civil Unrest Emergency Operation Center on a temporary assignment in 2020. Prior to their time at the City of Long Beach, Desiree was a Founding Partner at Impact Media Partners LLC from 2014 to 2019, where they played a key role in the company's establishment. Desiree also worked as a Sole Proprietor under their own name as a Social Impact & Engagement Strategist from 2006 to 2014. Before that, they served as an Independent Lens Series Publicist at ITVS from 2004 to 2006 and as an Associate Publicist and Associate Event Producer at KCET from 2003 to 2004. Desiree began their career at Amnesty International USA as a Freelance Publicity Coordinator for Artists for Amnesty from 2002 to 2003. Desiree Gutierrez earned a Master's degree in Public Policy from California State University, Northridge, completing their studies from 2010 to 2012. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's degree from the same institution in Communication, Journalism, and Related Programs, completing their studies from 2001 to 2003. In 2008 and 2009, they pursued coursework for the Certificate in Global Sustainability at the University of California Extension - Los Angeles. In addition to their formal education, Desiree has obtained several certifications, including the Drucker Playbook for the Public Sector Certificate of Completion from The Drucker Institute in October 2021, the Project Management Basics Certificate Program from California State University, Long Beach in May 2019, the Basic PIO and JIC/JIS (G290-291) certification from the California Specialized Training Institute in February 2019, and the Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS - 100) and Introduction to National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications from FEMA in October 2017.
