Tom Airaksinen has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Tom began their career in 2003 as a Translator/Interpreter for the Swedish Armed Forces and also worked as a freelance translator and interpreter during this time. In 2005, they joined Opera Software as an Interaction Designer, responsible for the design of the Nintendo DS version of the Opera web browser. Tom then worked at Appear Networks as an Interaction Designer, conducting user research and providing redesign suggestions. From 2006 to 2010, they worked at Ocean Observations as an Interaction Designer, handling concept development, wireframes, user research, and usability testing for various mobile applications. Tom also gave lectures on mobile UI design. Tom then joined Antrop as a User Experience Designer where they worked on design projects for clients such as Spotify, Tradera, and Telenor, focusing on iOS, Android, and web platforms. In 2012 and 2014, they took parental leave periods to care for their children. From 2013 to 2018, they worked at Visma as a Senior User Experience Designer and later as a Product Owner, involved in UX work, concept development, UI specifications, and usability testing for cloud-based web services. Since 2018, they have been a Product Owner at PE Accounting, responsible for the development of their iOS/Android app as well as the core web application, utilizing agile methodologies and priority-driven releases. In addition to their work experience, Tom has a background in translation and interpretation as well as lecturing on design topics.
Tom Airaksinen has a diverse education history. In 1995, they attended Södra Latins gymnasium, where they focused on the Natural Sciences Programme. Following their graduation in 1998, Tom enrolled at the Swedish Armed Forces Language School/Försvarets Tolkskola for a period of one year.
In 2001, they commenced their studies at Linköping University, completing their Master of Science degree in Cognitive Science. During this period, they specialized in Interaction Design and Service Design.
After obtaining their MSc degree, Tom enrolled in various courses related to UX/Product/Agile Development at Crisp, which took place from 2014 to 2016. This education equipped him with valuable skills in user experience design, product development, and agile methodologies.
To further enhance their professional credentials, Tom completed a Lean Product Management workshop in Barcelona in March 2019, organized by Itamar Gilad. This workshop focused on practicing lean product management principles.
In addition to their formal education, Tom obtained certification as a Certified Scrum Product Owner from the Scrum Alliance in December 2016. This certification demonstrates their proficiency in the Scrum framework and product ownership principles.
