April Caldwell

Healthcare Provider at PeakMed

A resident of Colorado and Colorado Springs since 1994, the only reason good enough for April to consider living anywhere else was getting her higher education. So, she took a sabbatical from Colorado from 1997-to 2000 to get her undergrad degree in Biology, and then from 2000 to 2002 to get her Master of Science and Physician Assistant degrees at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. April has been enjoying practicing in blissfully non-humid Colorado Springs since her homecoming in 2003. Almost her entire 16+ year career has been spent in Primary Care – in traditional Family Practice, Rural medicine, and Correctional medicine settings. Most recently, she branched out from her Primary Care roots with a 9 monthly foray into Acute/Urgent Care in a mobile setting. There, she picked up some crazy new skills and new confidence in diagnosing and treating disease states she had previously only read about in a textbook. But, sometimes it takes trying something “new” to make one remember what they loved about the “old”. In April’s case, while she enjoyed the challenge and ingenuity of the “new”, she found herself missing the familiarity of the “old” - of getting to know her patients and their health stories because she was developing a long-term relationship with them and their health. No matter the setting, each practice experience has left its mark on how she practices medicine. And, at the end of the day what April loves most about practicing medicine is delivering solid, evidence-based, practical, and compassionate health care to patients of all ages in a setting that fosters a long-term partnership between the patient and the practitioner.

She got her undergrad degree in Biology, and her Master of Science and Physician Assistant degrees at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.
