Ivan Dario Velez

Ivan Dario Velez is an accomplished medical professional specializing in infectious diseases and tropical medicine. Since April 2014, Ivan has served as the principal investigator at the World Mosquito Program Colombia, focusing on the biological control of dengue, Zika, and chikungunya through the use of the Wolbachia bacteria. Additionally, Ivan holds the position of Chair at Worldleish 7 in Cartagena, Colombia, since August 2019. With a long tenure at the University of Antioquia, Ivan has been the Director of PECET and a professor since 1986. Ivan also contributed as a medical officer for the World Health Organization from 2009 to 2010. Ivan's educational background includes a Doctorate in Infectious Diseases from the University of Granada, a specialization in Tropical Medicine and a Master's in Parasitology from the University of Montpellier, and a Medical and Surgical degree from the University of Antioquia.
