The Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH) is a Malaysian owned and operated company. It is part of an international Adventist network of some 600 non-for-profit hospitals, clinics and dispensaries worldwide. PAH is the first non-for-profit private hospital in Malaysia. It was established in 1924 by an American missionary doctor, Dr. J. Earl Gardner. From its humble beginnings as a “free clinic”, it has grown to become a tertiary healthcare institution equipped with 254 beds including 10 ICU beds, 9 HDU beds, and another 28 beds at the Adventist Oncology Centre. Today, the hospital is supported by 85 specialists and offers more than 25 specialisations using up-to-date medical equipment and facilities. A name associated with quality, PAH is the first hospital in the country to be accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI) in the year 2007 and joins the selected few to be accredited by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) in the year 2002. It is also recognised as a Baby-Friendly Initiatives Hospital (BFIH) in the year 2005 and is the first hospital in Malaysia to be presented with the Health Promoting Hospital Network (HPH) accreditation in the year 2013. PAH also has a one-stop Heart Centre, a three-storey Oncology Centre which is totally set aside for cancer treatment services, the first and only private Nuclear Medicine Centre in Northern Malaysia, a nursing college known as the Adventist College of Nursing & Health Sciences to run an accredited nursing programme, its own bakery which uses nutrient-rich ingredients like sprouted grains to produce healthy products, and a chaplaincy service to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of its patients. With more than 95 years of excellence in Medicine, the hospital forges ahead with its journey and continue to provide quality care for the health of the local community and the nation's international visitors.
