It was established in 1924 by an American missionary doctor, Dr. J. Earl Gardner. From its humble beginnings as a “free clinic”, it has grown to become a tertiary healthcare institution equipped with 254 beds including 10 ICU beds, 9 HDU beds, and another 28 beds at the Adventist Oncology Centre. Today, the hospital is supported by 85 specialists and offers more than 25 specialisations using up-to-date medical equipment and facilities. It is also recognised as a Baby-Friendly Initiatives Hospital (BFIH) in the year 2005 and is the first hospital in Malaysia to be presented with the Health Promoting Hospital Network (HPH) accreditation in the year 2013.
