Spiro Preovolos is currently the CEO of PenChecks. Prior to this, Spiro served as the Chief Compliance Officer at First Mercantile Trust Company / MMFG from April 2009 to December 2011. In this role, Spiro was responsible for the company-wide compliance program, which included top to bottom support and guidance regarding the laws, regulations, policies and procedures governing the sale and operation of First Mercantile’s services as recordkeeper, CIT investment manager and directed trustee.

During their time at First Mercantile Trust Company / MMFG, Spiro also oversaw testing for compliance with DOL/ERISA, OCC (e.g., CIT "bank maintained"), SEC (e.g., 13F and 13G) and IRS RR 81-100/2011-1 group trust requirements; coordinated with Legal, Risk Management, IT, HR and other Departments to ensure effective management of cross-Department compliance controls including investigations, audits, training, communications Complaint handling and resolution; and was responsible for the company-wide BSA/AML Compliance Program (FFIEC guidance, KYC/CIP, OFAC, SARs, risk assessments and training).

Spiro’s experience in compliance spans over a decade and their expertise in the field has made him a sought-after speaker at various industry events.

Spiro Preovolos attended the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and obtained their JD. Spiro then went on to Lambuth University and studied Poli. Sci. Spiro also attended NSHS.
