Shirley Moody-Turner serves as an associate professor of English and African American Studies at Penn State University since August 2006, where research centers on the racial and gender politics of literary production and the recovery of black women writers' literary histories using digital methods. Previous roles include assistant professor of English and post-doctoral fellow at the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (2006-2012), as well as trainer-consultant for the National Visionary Leadership Project (2005-2010). Educated at the University of Maryland, Shirley earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in English, specializing in African American Literature and Folklore Studies, and holds a BA in English Language and Literature from the University at Buffalo.
