George Hecksher

Board Member at PMC

George Hecksher is a board member at PMC. George was previously an archivist at Fairchild Archive, Condé Nast from January 2014 to August 2014. There, they created metadata to index digitized Women's Wear Daily (WWD) content into the Digital Asset Management system for syndication and editorial use. George also fulfilled internal and external research requests for archival and photographic materials and provided access to digital and physical content. In addition, they trained editorial staff in the use of archive products (Montrose DAM and ProQuest).

Hecksher has also worked as an acquisitions & technical services intern at Thomas J. Watson Library, The Metropolitan Museum of Art from September 2013 to August 2014. There, they were responsible for a range of acquisitions-related tasks, including order processing, invoice payment, and cataloging in OCLC Connexion. George also assisted with collection development projects, such as the creation of new MARC records and the processing of gifts.

In March 2012, Hecksher worked as a library/book conservation intern at The Museum of Modern Art. There, they assisted with a range of book conservation treatments, including cleaning, mending, and rebinding. George also helped to create housing for storage and participated in exhibitions preparation.

Hecksher’s first internship was at Folger Shakespeare Library in March 2011, where they assisted with a range of tasks related to library operations, such as shelving books and other materials, assisting patrons with research requests, and providing reference assistance.

George Hecksher has a Masters of Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in Library and Information Science, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from UC Irvine in Psychology. George also has a degree from Studio Art Centers International (SACI) via the Pratt Institute in Library and Information Science.
