Andy Hesselbach

SVP, Gas Operations People Gas & North Shore Gas at Peoples Energy

Andy Hesselbach is vice president – construction for Peoples Gas. In this role, he is responsible for the planning, design, engineering, permitting and execution of Peoples Gas construction projects, including its multi-year system modernization program.

Since 2002, Hesselbach has worked in the development, design, permitting, engineering, construction and overall management of more than $3.6 billion in energy infrastructure projects for Milwaukee-based We Energies. He was appointed project director – generation projects in 2011. During his time as project director, Hesselbach served as vice president and general manager of several Wisconsin Energy Corp. subsidiaries that owned or constructed electric and natural gas generation assets. He has extensive experience negotiating arrangements with various government agencies, large consumer groups and local community associations.

Hesselbach joined the company in 1992 as an energy utilization engineer at Wisconsin Natural Gas Co., where he was responsible for energy efficiency strategies and supply planning for large commercial and industrial customers. In 1994, he was appointed project manager – power marketing, where he negotiated power purchase and sales agreements with utilities, municipalities and other trading partners.

In 1997, Hesselbach was named manager – gas system marketing, where he led a team of engineering, field technician, billing and support staff. In this role, he was responsible for large account billing, territory development and customer growth projects.

Prior to joining the company, Hesselbach’s professional experience included engineering roles at Nicor Gas Co., a natural gas distributor in northern Illinois. At Nicor, he designed natural gas distribution and transmission systems and also developed natural gas-fueled power generation and prime mover applications for large industrial and commercial sites.

Hesselbach serves on the Metropolitan Planning Council Board of Governors, and is on the MPC Regional Planning and Investments Committee.

Hesselbach earned his Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in finance from Marquette University, and his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Wisconsin.
